is a 3-hour drive from the city of Babylon. Tucked away in the Catskills, it’s the perfect location for beginners learning to snowboard or ski for the first time. The mountain also offers the biggest tubing park in New York state. Enjoy your stay in the mountains at one of its world-class resorts, including the Liftside and Pinnacle Condos or Katskill Mountain Club. Both resorts offer superb amenities, including a pool, hot tub, and dining.

There’s still plenty of time to enjoy ice skating this winter. You can find some of the best skating rinks near Babylon, most of which offer lessons and rentals, all at an affordable price. Most of these rinks stay open well into the spring.

Christopher Morley Park in Roslyn, NY

Christopher Morley Park is in the northern part of Nassau County. The park has been in operation since 1961 and is named after famous writer Christopher Morley. Ice skating lessons take place every day with skate rentals available. You should call ahead to reserve lessons. The park is a quick drive from Babylon. Of course, being out in the cold all day can make someone hungry for a warm meal afterward. Many restaurants are on your way back home, including the well-known Brazilian Steakhouse Fogo de Chao.


Grant Park Rink in Hewlett, NY

The ice rink at Grant Park Rink in Hewlett, New York, holds skating lessons Wednesday through Sunday and offers night skating sessions on Fridays and Saturdays. Ice skating is open all through March. After a long, cold day of skating outside, treat your family to some comfort food at either Island Buffet Hibachi Grill, Coral House, or Imperial Diner.


Marjorie R. Post Community Park Ice Rink in Massapequa, NY

Public skating lessons at Marjorie R. Post Community Park occur Friday through Sunday and on most major holidays. Consider stopping at New York Beanery to warm yourself up with a cup of coffee or hot chocolate, or pick up a meal at Mama’s Copiague or the Lindenhurst Diner.


Syosset-Woodbury Community Park Ice Rink in Syosset, NY


Syosset-Woodbury Community Park Ice Rink is just a quick drive through Jericho Turnpike and the Long Island Expressway, less than a 20-minute drive from Babylon. This ice rink offers free skating sessions for kids two and under and public skating lessons from Friday to Sunday. They are open longer hours during the holidays and school breaks.


Northwell Health Ice Center in East Meadow, NY

Located inside Eisenhower Park, the Northwell Health Ice Center gives you the option to skate indoors or outdoors. At this rink, kids and adults have the opportunity to skate where the New York Islanders train. The rinks are open to the public on weekends, and since the number of skaters allowed on the rink is limited, reservations are recommended. Some of the best restaurants near the Northwell Health Ice Center include The Tipsy Barrel and Riella’s Homestyle.

Buckskill Winter Club in East Hampton, NY

Located just over 60 miles from Babylon and north of Montauk Highway, Buckskill Winter Club in East Hampton, New York, is an upscale, high-end rink that offers public skating seven days a week. Admission ranges from $20 to $25 for all ages and includes luxurious amenities and perks, like a café on-site, fireplaces, changing stations, regular ice resurfacing, and skate and helmet rentals.

You can find The Rinx at Harborfront Park 30 miles east of Babylon and located at Port Jefferson Harbor. This high-end space offers enchanting scenery with harbor views. Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, NY

Eisenhower Park is one of Long Island’s most extensive park spaces, sitting on over 900 acres. Though the park does not have designed trails, cross-country skiing is allowed and popular with Long Island residents. Sledding and tobogganing are also popular all-ages activities at the park, as are the indoor and outdoor ice skating rinks. There is a rich history at Garvie Point Museum and Preserve. The museum itself is the center of research for Long Island’s geology and a valued resource in Native American archeological studies.
